Willson Hospice House Certified
June 30, 2010
Project Highlight - Willson Hospice HouseThe Willson Hospice House in Albany, GA has recently opened, creating a unique natural experience for patients, staff members, and visitors on the 209 acre site. The hospice care facility provides a peaceful setting for patients and families that are experiencing the process in end of life care. With nearly 200 acres of land set aside in dedicated open space, the existing forests as well as the created gardens and trails can provide peaceful and experiential moments in natural settings.
Audubon Environmental was privileged to work with the excellent team at Willson Hospice House to establish sustainable resource management practices, a walking trail, and observation and education points on the site. The entire project was integrated with principles of long-term stewardship, habitat and wildlife enhancement, educational opportunities, and quality of life improvement. Additionally, AE advised and implemented the program requirements for Audubon International’s Signature Program. Willson Hospice House was recently recognized as the first health care facility worldwide to receive certification as an Audubon International Silver Signature Sanctuary. Congratulations to the entire team at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, KLMK Group, and Perkins+Will.

New Pesticide Regulations Are on the Way
If you apply pesticides in your work, the new pesticide regulations may affect you and your operations. Under the old rules, if you apply pesticides according to the pesticide label and you are licensed, you are in compliance. All of this is changing because pesticides are now going to be regulated as ‘point sources’ and applications may well require permits. New rules take effect April 11, 2011 and we will keep you up to date as the new rules become known.

Preserving, Enhancing, and Protecting your Natural Amenities
Audubon Environmental develops and implements integrated strategies for land, water, and wildlife stewardship – resulting in unique places for your residents. We live for finding, preserving, and maximizing the use of your natural amenities including open spaces, greenways, walkways, trails, education stations, preserves, recreation activities, and the long term management of these unique features.
Long-term care of the land is a two-part process: the land must be managed in a way that preserves, protects, and restores natural resources, and the people who live, work and play on the land must be a part of the solution. Property managers, landscapers, and others who participate in the care of the land need to have a plan to ensure that natural resources are not harmed in the daily use of the property. To maintain the health of the property’s ecosystem, AE develops management plans and provides hands-on implementation and education.
