Grand River


Grand River is a 3,000-acre multi-phased development near the Cahaba River in Jefferson County near Leeds, Alabama that will include housing, recreation, commercial and restored stream and forest preserve. In keeping with its desire to develop this site in an ecologically sustainable manner, USS Real Estate (USS), a division of United States Steel Corporation, and Daniel Corporation have formed a partnership with Audubon International by enrolling Grand River in the Gold Signature Program.

Sustainability Features

  • Preserve, restore, and buffer the Cahaba River and Kanetuck Branch and its tributaries.
  • Use of a BMP treatment train complex upstream of Kanetuck Branch to intercept and treat storm water on site and avoid downstream water quality conflicts.
  • Implemented water quality monitoring program.
  • Connected on-site habitat features to the surrounding existing forest.
  • Developed outparcel development guidelines to assist owners and lessors in developing outparcels that support the communities sustainability guidelines.
